And, just because it’s cold out doesn’t mean you can’t still wear a skirt. A long, silk skirt pairs beautifully with a white button down shirt, which is easily the best smart casual uniform. If you have found a wool jacket in an eye catching pattern, like plaid, pair it with black skinny jeans to keep the rest of the outfit simple. Lots of layers, interesting shoe choices, and thrifted jackets make for a unique look, even when the rain might have you questioning your fashion choices.
If bare legs aren't an option, embrace the return of the early '00s and style a dress or long tunic over cropped pants. You can turn the world's coziest pair of pants into something elevated with the help of a structured button-down, a blazer, and zip-up boots. This outfit is one of those situations where a pair of galoshes is a must. Come on, just look at those shoes—you wouldn’t want to ruin those beauties.

A water-repellent padded gilet over a top or t-shirt might also offer all the lightweight protection you need. In the heat of summer, less is definitely more in the rain. Pair your shorts with a sleeveless vest and top things off with a breathable windbreaker and you're good to go. Just make sure you keep your sandals at home – wet shoes and feet spell disaster. Walking shoes with a sturdy grip, or even classic rain boots are a far safer bet.
This chunky cropped cable sweater is a modern version of your favorite classic. Top with a weather-ready waxed jacket in nautical yellow and distressed skinny jeans. When shapely or belted, they look the most flattering on anybody. You can call this the retro rainy day outfit look. For heavier rain, look for slim-fitting, lightweight, quick-dry pants. Now, your outfit is already put together for you , and you'll have less stress while getting ready in the morning. Depending on the season, your ideal rainy day outfit might need some added protection from the cold. They have a larger profile, so they don’t fit with tapered jeans, and you might struggle to get chinos to sit nicely over the top. For maximum comfort, a pair of knee-high boots looks chic yet doesn’t appear as if you’re trying too hard. Wear them in a lighter color and go for a darker outfit to draw all eyes to them.
The first thing in your rain wardrobe arsenal should be a jacket to keep your shoulders dry. It’s best to pick up a coat with a hood so you can keep your hair quaffed to perfection, even if the elements conspire against you. These three rainy day essentials will do most of the heavy lifting in a downpour, so if you’re lacking proper rain gear, start here. If it rains a lot in your part of the country, you’ll want to get a few solid basics that you can wear whenever it looks like it’ll be another grey, gloomy day.

Again, it would be so easy to keep the jacket tucked in a backpack, and put it on when you need it. Or, you can rock it like I do here—the bright yellow is always appropriate in the rain. The raw denim is thick enough to keep my legs warm and mostly dry. Jeans can only protect you so much, and if it’s coming down in sheets, you’ll end up soaked no matter how thick the denim is. I went with the bright yellow, just because I loved it. But RAINS has nine other colorways available—some more toned down, some even more bodacious (like the space-man silver jacket).
Rainy days can be tricky but rainy and humid days are trickier. A thin scarf to tie around your hair can keep flyaways at bay and protect against frizz. You won't need to worry about them getting messed up, and they'll give your outfit a laid-back vibe.

There’s nothing better than layers, and this Goodfellow & Co shawl collar sweater is a soft and comfy fall wardrobe option. I like that they’re tapered, but still have a wide enough leg opening to fit over my duck boots. On top I’ve got the Western Rise quilted coat, which is weather resistant (not waterproof like the RAINS coat, but will keep you dry if it’s sprinkling). Put a wool cap on top of this outfit to finish the look. The pockets of the trousers have storm-proof guards, so you can safely tuck your phone away no matter how hard it pours. A quick note on their sizing—they don’t have Small, Mediums, Or Large—they have Small/Medium, Medium/Large, Large/Extra-Large. I’m not sure why they do this, but I recommend choosing whichever is the smaller size. When I show up for work with wet clothes and wet socks and sit in my chair for hours on end, wondering if I’m getting trench-foot.
An elegant, thrifted jacket in a wool material can make a pair of blue denim jeans look super smart. Although dressing for rainy spring or summer days is a little less pressured , it's still wise to give your outfit some forethought. Once again, cargo pants, cropped trousers or even shorts that are made from fast-drying microfibre are a real contender. Plus, anything with a shorter leg will let you avoid soggy hems if you accidentally plunge your foot into a puddle.
And it’s hard to feel bummed out when wearing bright pink rain boots like these! Plus, you can accessorize with gorgeous earrings and colorful scarves too, so feel free to go all out and let your inner toddler have a field day. And while you’re at it, how about hunting down a good rain puddle or two and having a nice old-fashioned splash? You can also keep your outfit darker if that’s what you prefer on rainy days; a trench coat doesn’t have to be tan, you can also wear a black one. Paired with simple blue jeans and a white turtleneck, you have lots of room for accessorising; a black hat will give you a little bit of mystery. You can also keep the whole look sporty, wearing a gray hoodie underneath a black, leather jacket and sports sneakers.
Be it a bucket option, a cap, or a beret, it will add flair to your outfit and protect your hair in style. On the bottom, I’ve got on a pair of Western Rise AT Slim pants. These are waterproof and have a gusset in the crotch, which is great for rock climbing or whenever you need to stretch out the legs a bit.
Faux Leather Jacket + Bike Shorts + Chunky Sneakers
Your outfit doesn’t have to be boring to be casual either; simply add some noticeable accessories. Just because it’s raining doesn’t mean you have to trade in your most stylish boots for simple black ones. A pair of white ankle boots dresses up a simple outfit of jeans and a white shirt. A trench coat is a great place to start; it’s chic, versatile, and goes with everything whether your outfit is super dressed up or dressed down. Pair it with black, leather pants and ankle boots that work on wet ground. Give the outfit a more casual feel with a sporty baseball hat.
