Yes, I shouldn’t care about anyone’s reaction, but sometimes I’m just not in the mood for a lecture. If you do check out the measurements, you’ll see that the house has lots of rooms, but they are fairly small rooms. In fact, the largest room in the house is actually in the attic.

Ania is a diplomat’s wife, among many other things, but that’s the part of her that brought them to this home in Denmark. It’s also the part that seems to be breaking her heart a little these days, as you’ll read near the end of her interview. She’s got some truly lovely, stick-to-your-soul thoughts about raising kids in a somewhat transient lifestyle, knowing full well your home won’t be your home in a few short years. I read this article in the Wall Street Journal about well-done steak shame and I laughed because I totally relate. It’s like a have the taste buds of a 5 year old, but I can’t help it; I much prefer the texture of well-done steak. I don’t like rare or medium rare at all.

Well, you’ll be glad to know you’re not the only one. Life with kids is ever-changing — this month it’s all about gymnastics, but next month might be swimming, or debate, or Legos, or cooking. Which means you need a house and systems that are flexible and adaptable.

Send a copy to your friend who just moved into a new house. Gift it to your bestie who’s adding another baby to the family. Buy one for your neighbor who’s stressed out about switching up bedrooms for her kids. It’s perfect for your overwhelmed cousin who’s going through a remodeling project.

I got quite practiced at recording and editing. I made progress on the podcast branding. When we bought the Tall House, we set aside budget for its renovation, but not for two renovations. So I’m trying to figure out how to fund work on the Small House. “I’ve been known for lots of different things,” she said.

I haven’t shared it yet, but I’m excited to show you. The Tall House & The Small House As far as the BIG renovation projects go, I’m happy to report the Tall House is pretty much complete. Which means I am now in the decorating phase — trying to find the right rugs for each room, thinking about art work (a mural?) in the stairwell, figuring out wallpaper for Flora June’s bedroom.

I think you're going to love reading Design Mom. Moms don’t know how and when to stop loving and caring. Their love isn’t restricted; it grows to touch every aspect of their lives, and that counts their work as well. In this article, we discussed a few moms who make the best of designers and some potential hows and whys that will definitely inspire the working moms across the globe.

When children become a part of a woman’s life, they reconstruct their mother’s life and add a whole new dimension to it. But then again, things like these are meant to be good for both the mother and the child. The mom gets busy exploring the ideas that children seed in their minds and thus, uses her priorities to fuel her motivation. The quotes below from Melanie and Kimmy let us peek into their creative lives as designer moms. Some readings are long books, others are short essays, others are legal documents (like Title IX). For each episode, she would read one these texts with a reading partner and then they discuss it on the podcast.

The first book was “telling you, ‘here’s how to live with kids,’” and the new book is “‘here’s how to avoid having them,’” she said. She knows you love your kids and want to create a haven for them. A place where they can relax, and feel safe and loved. A home where they can pursue their interests and stretch their creative muscles. She also knows you long for a beautiful home.

We have no idea why we haven’t been asked to do so. We already have the money and resources. A house tour in the San Juan Islands of Washington, featuring a single mother of two who removed most of the interior doors in her house and made archways instead. Design Mom PodcastStarting a podcast has been on my project list for the last five years at least. I didn’t manage to get one launched in 2021, but I did figure out a few things.
